SDP North-West Elects New Leaders

The Social Democratic Party Nigeria in the North-West zone held its zonal congress on Monday in Kaduna, where new officials were elected to manage party affairs in the region ahead of future elections. The exercise took place at the party’s state secretariat and was supervised by an electoral committee led by Adamu Idris and Titus Madaki.

During the congress, Hon. Salihu Suleiman from Kaduna emerged as the National Vice Chairman for the North-West zone. Other positions were also filled, with candidates returned without opposition across all available offices. The outcome was confirmed in a statement released at the end of the event by the electoral committee.

The newly elected officials include Rilwanu Jamo from Katsina as Zonal Secretary, Hassan Gidan Laka from Sokoto as Zonal Treasurer, and Musa Lawan from Katsina as Zonal Publicity Secretary. Inuwa Idris from Kaduna was chosen as Zonal Financial Secretary, while Bishop Alex Baidi took the role of Organising Secretary.

Additional positions were filled by Aminu Sagagi as Welfare Secretary, Garba Namodori as Auditor, Ummi Kabir as Women Leader, and Murtala Jangebe as Youth Leader.

The election process was peaceful, with delegates present to witness the selection of leaders who will oversee party activities in the zone. The committee in charge of the exercise advised the new officials to work together, promote unity, and ensure all members are carried along in party decisions.

Speaking after the congress, the new zonal vice chairman said the leadership would focus on strengthening the party structure and improving its performance in upcoming elections. He noted that efforts would be directed at building a stronger opposition presence in the region.

The development comes as political parties across the country continue to organise and prepare ahead of the 2027 general elections, with internal structures being adjusted to meet upcoming political demands.
