APC screens, approves Yusuf for 2027 re-election bid

The All Progressives Congress has approved Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to contest for a second term in office ahead of the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The development was announced in a statement released on Friday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. According to the statement, the governor successfully completed the party’s screening process after submitting his nomination and screening documents to the APC leadership.

The exercise was carried out by a committee led by APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda at the Plateau Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. After reviewing the governor’s documents and qualifications, the committee approved him to participate in the race for the party’s governorship ticket.

Party officials stated that the governor met all constitutional and party requirements needed for the contest. The committee also described him as the only aspirant currently seeking the APC governorship ticket in Kano State ahead of the next election.

Following the screening, Governor Yusuf expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for approving his bid for another term in office. He said the support from the party would encourage his administration to continue focusing on development and governance in Kano State.

The governor also stated that his administration would continue to pursue policies aimed at improving education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment and economic opportunities across the state. He added that his government remains committed to inclusive governance and peaceful coexistence among residents.

Yusuf further appealed to party members and supporters to remain united as preparations for the 2027 elections continue. He urged stakeholders within the APC to work together to strengthen the party and maintain its political position in Kano State.

The clearance comes at a time when political activities are gradually increasing across the country as parties begin consultations, screenings and preparations ahead of the next general elections.
