APC Postpones Governorship, Assembly Primaries in Three States

The All Progressives Congress has adjusted the dates for some of its governorship and State House of Assembly primary elections in Bauchi, Kwara and Zamfara states as preparations continue ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following approval by the National Working Committee after discussions with party stakeholders.

Under the new timetable, the governorship primary elections earlier planned for Bauchi and Kwara states will now take place on Friday, May 22, 2026.

The party also changed the date for the State House of Assembly primaries in Maradun I and Maradun II constituencies in Zamfara State. Those elections have now been fixed for Sunday, May 24, 2026.

According to the party, the changes were made after consultations aimed at creating a better environment for the conduct of the exercises and ensuring that party activities proceed without disruption.

The APC said the adjustment formed part of its efforts to organise a primary election process that follows party rules and allows members to participate in an orderly and peaceful manner.

The party maintained that the revised schedule would support smooth coordination of activities and help strengthen confidence in the internal electoral process.

With the updated dates now in place, party members and aspirants in the affected states are expected to continue preparations ahead of the rescheduled primaries.
