2027: Nafiu Bala-Led ADC Faction Names Chris Uba as Presidential Candidate

On Sunday in Abuja, a faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) announced businessman Prof. Chris Uba as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections after completing its internal selection process across the country.

The faction, led by Bala Gombe, also presented flags to 29 governorship candidates drawn from different parts of Nigeria during a formal unveiling of its nominees for various elective positions. The event brought together party leaders and aspirants from across the six geopolitical zones.

Gombe explained that the party had initially received three presidential aspirants who purchased nomination forms to contest for the ticket. He listed them as Dr Bashir Sani, Prince Williams Charles, and Prof. Chris Uba.

He said the party adopted a consensus arrangement in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, allowing aspirants to reach an agreement on a single candidate. According to him, two of the aspirants later withdrew from the race and supported Uba, leading to his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate.

The faction also said the decision followed internal party guidelines and was carried out in line with its constitution and electoral procedures. It added that the process covered not only the presidential ticket but also governorship and legislative positions across the country.

Among the governorship candidates unveiled were nominees from states including Adamawa, Kano, Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Benue, Nasarawa and Delta. The party said all candidates emerged through its internal selection process.

Party leaders stated that the selection exercise was completed peacefully and that members showed cooperation during the process. They added that the party is preparing to compete actively in the 2027 general elections with what they described as credible candidates across different positions.

The ADC, founded in 2005, has continued to position itself as an alternative political platform in Nigeria. In recent years, it has worked to expand its presence by recruiting new members and strengthening its structures ahead of future elections.

Political parties across the country are currently increasing preparations for the 2027 elections, with candidate selection, alliances and consultations ongoing at various levels.
