Tinubu to Begin Abuja Project Commissioning on Tuesday

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that President Bola Tinubu will begin a multi-day commissioning exercise of completed infrastructure projects in Abuja on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

The programme will start with the inauguration of the second phase of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) main carriageways, which has been completed and is ready for use. Wike made the announcement after a final inspection tour of the project sites in Abuja on Monday, June 8, 2026, where he reviewed the readiness of major roads and facilities for formal opening.

He explained that the commissioning activities will continue through the week as part of events marking the administration’s third year in office. According to the schedule, President Tinubu will also open Arterial Road N5 in Life Camp on Wednesday, June 10, followed by the dualised Airport to Kuje highway on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

These road projects are expected to improve movement and link key economic and residential areas within the capital territory.

Wike said the roads being commissioned are fully completed and ready for public use, while commending contractors for meeting delivery timelines. He also noted that the projects reflect ongoing efforts to expand infrastructure across Abuja and surrounding communities.

The minister added that the President will also visit satellite towns to commission additional projects in area councils, although full details of those projects were not disclosed. He said the initiative shows the government’s focus on extending development beyond the city centre to rural communities within the FCT.

On the issue of newly completed bus terminals that are yet to start operations, Wike explained that the delay is due to ongoing processes for a public-private partnership arrangement approved by the Federal Executive Council. He stated that the concession process is still ongoing as the private operator prepares transport assets needed for full take-off.

He added that government procedures must be followed before private management of public facilities can begin, and assured residents that the system is being carefully handled to ensure proper operation once it becomes active.
