The Nigeria Democratic Congress has denied giving former Senator Danjuma La’ah its governorship ticket for Kaduna State ahead of the 2027 general election, saying a document circulating on social media in his name is not from the party.
The party’s Deputy National Chairman, North, Sidi Abdul Bomi, made the clarification during a telephone interview, amid growing claims over who will represent the NDC in the Kaduna governorship race.
The controversy followed the circulation of a purported NDC governorship ticket bearing La’ah’s name. Bomi said the document was not issued by the party and should not be regarded as proof that the former lawmaker had been selected as its candidate.
The development has also drawn a response from Mohammed Abbas, who maintains that he remains the recognised NDC governorship candidate in Kaduna State.
Abbas said the party’s national leadership had already addressed the matter and rejected the document reportedly linking La’ah to the governorship ticket.
He explained that he obtained the party’s nomination form within the required period, completed the screening process and took part in the governorship primary organised by the NDC.
According to Abbas, the party’s primary election committee travelled to Kaduna, conducted the exercise and submitted a report declaring him the winner.
He further claimed that the party had uploaded his name as its governorship candidate, arguing that anyone who did not participate in the nomination process could only emerge through a formal replacement arrangement.

Abbas also said La’ah was not present during the screening exercise or the governorship primary that produced him as the candidate.
The former senator, who previously represented Kaduna South Senatorial District, has been linked to the governorship contest despite the dispute over the party’s nomination.
Abbas disclosed that he was among those who encouraged La’ah to join the NDC but said the former lawmaker initially entered the party with plans to contest for the Kaduna South Senate seat rather than the governorship.
He expressed hope that La’ah would consider returning to the senatorial race, saying his political experience could strengthen the party’s chances in the 2027 election.
Abbas also said he planned to meet La’ah and his supporters as part of efforts to resolve disagreements within the party ahead of the election.
He said his planned engagement in Kafanchan would involve meetings with party leaders, ward officials, elders, women and youth groups in an effort to bring the different groups together.
The NDC governorship aspirant said the party needed unity to compete effectively in Kaduna State in 2027.
He also urged voters to pay attention to issues affecting their daily lives, including the rising cost of living, insecurity and difficulties faced by farmers, when choosing their preferred candidate in the election.
