2027: Peter Obi Attends Makinde’s Abuja Campaign Office Inauguration

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, on Monday attended the opening of the campaign office of Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, in Abuja.

The event took place in the Federal Capital Territory as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum.

Obi was seen at the inauguration seated beside Bauchi State Governor and APM National Leader, Bala Mohammed, who used the occasion to present Makinde as a strong contender in the 2027 presidential race.

Mohammed urged Nigerians and other political groups not to dismiss the APM or its presidential candidate, saying the party was preparing to offer an alternative direction for the country. He described Makinde as a politician with experience at the state level and the capacity to serve at the national level.

Video footage from the event showed Obi and Mohammed sitting together during the inauguration, drawing attention to the presence of the NDC presidential candidate at an event organised for another opposition presidential hopeful.

Makinde, who is the governor of Oyo State, is seeking the presidency under the APM in the 2027 election. His emergence has added another candidate to an increasingly competitive opposition field ahead of the poll.

The latest development also comes against the background of earlier efforts by opposition parties to work together ahead of the 2027 election.

On April 25, opposition political groups gathered in Ibadan, Oyo State, where they discussed plans to build a stronger alliance and possibly support a single presidential candidate capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress.

However, several opposition figures have since emerged with separate presidential ambitions, making the shape of any possible coalition ahead of the election uncertain.

Obi’s attendance at Makinde’s campaign office inauguration therefore comes at a time when political parties and their candidates are stepping up consultations, alliances and mobilisation efforts as the 2027 presidential contest draws closer.
