APC Raises Alarm Over Fresh Bandit Attack in Oyo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has raised concerns over a fresh attack by suspected bandits, saying the incident points to weaknesses in the state’s security system.

The party made its position known on Monday in a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Wasiu Sadare, following the attack on a security facility in the state.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday along the Igbeti-Igboho road in Olorunsogo Local Government Area. The suspected bandits were said to have attacked a base established for personnel of Operation Burst, a security outfit operating in the state.

During the attack, the assailants reportedly spent some time at the facility and made away with property, including a generator and a motorcycle.

The APC said the incident raised concerns about the ability of security agencies to detect and respond to attacks in parts of Oyo State.

The party also questioned the use and effectiveness of the surveillance aircraft acquired by the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde to support security operations across the state.

According to the APC, the attack happened in the same general area where the surveillance aircraft were reportedly expected to operate, yet there was no indication that the aircraft were used to detect or respond to the movement of the attackers.

The party argued that the reported attack should prompt the state government to explain how its security surveillance equipment is being deployed and whether it is providing the expected support to security personnel.

The APC also criticised Governor Makinde over his repeated opposition to some of President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, claiming that his comments showed a lack of understanding of economic management.

The party maintained that the latest attack had raised fresh questions about security preparedness in Oyo State and called attention to the need for more effective surveillance and rapid response to threats.
