The victims were reportedly taken by their abductors on Thursday, October 1, 2026, around the Umunoha area of Imo State.

The Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters, CSP Anietie Iniedu, disclosed the deployment in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the statement, Nadada arrived in Imo alongside two Commissioners of Police and immediately assessed the scene of the incident as well as the ongoing efforts to locate the abducted passengers.

The DIG also reviewed the operational plans, personnel deployed and available security equipment before issuing additional directives to strengthen the coordinated search-and-rescue operation.

The assessment involved the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Audu Garba Bosso; the Commissioner of Police in charge of Federal Operations, CP Akpan Anifiok; the Commissioner of Police overseeing the Police Mobile Force; other security commanders and members of the management team of the Imo State Police Command.

The police said additional tactical teams and operational resources had been deployed to locations identified as relevant to the search.

The operation is also being supported by intelligence gathering and coordinated activities involving other security agencies as efforts continue to track the abductors and locate the victims.

The police said Nadada had assured the public that security personnel would continue working towards securing the safe release of all those abducted.

The DIG also appealed to residents, travellers and other members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while the operation continues.

Members of the public with credible information that could assist the security agencies in locating the victims or identifying the abductors were urged to contact the police or the nearest security formation.

The police said information provided by members of the public would be treated confidentially and urged the media and residents to avoid actions that could interfere with the ongoing operation.

The Nigeria Police Force said updates on the search-and-rescue efforts would be provided as new developments emerge.
