Ekiti PDP House of Assembly Candidate Adeleye, Others Escape Attack, Armed Thugs Invade Okemesi Residence

A few days to the general elections, Ekiti State is in the news again for the usual stories of electoral violence, especially against candidates of the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Yesterday, the campaign train of PDP House of Assembly Candidate for Ekiti West Constituency II, Abraham Olusegun Adeleye, was attacked by thugs wielding dangerous weapons, at Ita-Awure junction.

The PDP, Adeleye, and other members of his campaign train escaped the attack by a whiskers, with three people sustaining various degrees of injuries.

Few hours after the attack, Adeleye’s family house along Ita-Awure road, Okemesi Ekiti, was invaded by unknown men, who ransacked the house and held the occupants hostage for hours.

Speaking on the attacks, Adeleye said it was a sign of fear of the impending defeat of the APC candidate, adding that he will not be dettered.

“When I opted to contest this election into the House of Assembly, I knew the risks involved, considering the antecedents of the ruling party.

“However, I never envisaged that they will get to the extent of attacking us on a broad-daylight and also invading my family house where my aged grandmother resides.

“But we won’t be intimidated out of this race because we are sure of winning.

“The people of Ekiti State and Ekiti West Constituency II deserve a peaceful, free and fair elections, and it is essential for all stakeholders to work together to achieve this goal as we approach March 18, 2023 House of Assembly election,” Adeleye told our reporter.
