Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has ordered the dissolution of all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state with immediate effect.

The announcement was made on Thursday in Uyo by the Secretary to the State Government, Enobong Uwah.According to the SSG, the governor acted under the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023.

He added that members of the dissolved boards had contributed to the implementation of the administration’s ARISE agenda and were wished well in their future engagements.

Following the order, chairpersons of the affected boards have been directed to hand over all government property in their care to the most senior officers in their establishments.

The governor had earlier hinted at such a decision during a media briefing to mark the 37th anniversary of the state in 2024, where he noted that the dissolution of the executive council and boards would be carried out at the right time.

He explained that it was not meant to take anyone by surprise, as the commissioners and board members had already given their best in service to the state.

He further said that a valedictory session would be held to formally thank the commissioners and board members for their contributions to the growth and development of Akwa Ibom.
