The former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Udeh Okoye, has resigned from the party, saying it has drifted from its founding principles and lost its direction.
Okoye announced his resignation in a letter dated October 13, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Agbogugu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He said his decision came after long reflection and careful thought about the state of the party.
The ex-lawmaker, who once served as National Youth Leader and later as National Secretary of the PDP, expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities it gave him to serve both at the state and national levels.He stated that the PDP, once known for its unity and commitment to fairness and equity, had over time abandoned those ideals.
According to him, the party that once gave Nigerians hope for good governance has now lost its moral foundation and sense of purpose.Okoye said he could no longer remain in a political group that, in his view, has derailed from the goals and principles that once guided its founding members.
He noted that his exit was a personal decision made out of conviction and a desire to pursue a political path focused on democracy, transparency, and service to citizens.
He thanked his colleagues and members of the party across various levels for their cooperation and friendship during his years of service.Okoye’s departure adds to the growing list of resignations and defections that have recently hit the PDP.
Many of its members have either left politics or joined other parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), due to internal conflicts, leadership struggles, and loss of confidence in the party’s direction.
As of the time of this report, Udeh Okoye has not declared membership of any other political party.
