Abia 2027: Otti warns against election rigging, says only people’s will can prevail

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has cautioned political figures planning to manipulate the 2027 governorship election to drop such plans, insisting that the will of the people and God will determine the outcome of the polls.

Otti gave the warning on Thursday during the October edition of his monthly media engagement, Alex Otti Speaks to Abians, held at the Government House, Umuahia. The session was aired on Channels Television’s YouTube channel.

He stated that while he has no objection to anyone contesting in 2027, those plotting to tamper with the process should prepare for the consequences of their actions. The governor noted that attempts to impose results on the people would not succeed under his watch.

Otti’s reaction followed comments credited to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who reportedly claimed that the All Progressives Congress would take over Abia in 2027.

The governor, who won the 2023 election under the Labour Party, ending the Peoples Democratic Party’s two-decade dominance in the state, said his administration remains committed to protecting the people’s mandate and ensuring a transparent electoral process in the next general elections.

Otti also maintained that no amount of political scheming would alter the people’s decision when the time comes.
