The African Democratic Congress has announced a plan to overhaul Nigeria’s political and governance systems by eliminating godfatherism, budget padding, and politics driven by personal gain.
The party said it intends to build a transparent, people-centered government powered by technology and citizen participation.In a statement released on Friday through its mobilisation wing, ADC Vanguard, the party said its goal is to “redesign governance” and make leadership in Nigeria more accountable.
It explained that Nigerian politics had for years revolved around individuals instead of principles, leading to the misuse of power and public funds.The ADC stated that under its leadership, every project and policy would be assessed based on their direct benefits to citizens rather than how much they enrich politicians.
It pledged that at least 70 percent of all government projects would be dedicated to local communities instead of being lost in inflated contracts and bureaucratic processes.The party also proposed the introduction of a blockchain-backed digital system that would allow Nigerians to track every government expense in real time.
It said this would ensure transparency and allow citizens to see how funds move from federal ministries to local projects.According to the ADC, youth involvement will be central to its plan, as young Nigerians would not only be employed by the government but also take part in auditing and monitoring public spending through open data platforms.
The party said its model of governance would focus on results, accountability, and transparency, noting that ministries would operate like performance-based enterprises.
Ministers and public officials, it said, would be evaluated based on their measurable impact on citizens’ lives and social development rather than loyalty to political leaders.The ADC described its approach as a shift from the old political order built on secrecy and favoritism to one based on innovation, merit, and service.
It added that the plan is not about making promises but about creating a working system that puts the people at the center of governance.According to the party, the aim is to redefine leadership as service and make government function like a well-run enterprise where citizens are the true shareholders and the benefits are good roads, quality healthcare, education, jobs, and security.
The ADC said it was not joining the existing political structure but coming to transform it entirely by introducing “a transparent, accountable and citizen-driven governance model for Nigeria’s future.”
