Court Clears PDP to Hold National Convention in Ibadan

The Oyo State High Court has given approval for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to proceed with its elective national convention, scheduled to be held in Ibadan between November 15 and 16, 2025.

The court’s ruling brought an end to several weeks of internal tension and legal disputes within the party, as some aggrieved members had earlier sought to stop the event through court actions.

As part of its decision, the court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be present at the convention to observe and monitor proceedings in line with electoral regulations.

The convention is expected to usher in new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and define the PDP’s organizational and political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The judgment has been received as a major relief for party stakeholders, who have been awaiting clarity on the legal status of the convention after weeks of uncertainty and internal disagreements.
