Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has reacted sharply to the recent order issued by an Oyo State High Court concerning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, dismissing it as a politically driven and legally baseless ruling.
Fayose described the court action as a joke and accused the judge of issuing an order that has no legal weight or effect, adding that it cannot be enforced by any authority, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He argued that a State High Court has no authority to override or interfere with a decision already taken by a Federal High Court, insisting that the move reflected a lack of legal understanding.
The former governor urged the National Judicial Council (NJC) to take disciplinary action against Justice A. L. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court, who issued the ex parte order despite being aware of an earlier judgment by Justice James Omotosho on the same matter on October 31, 2025.
Fayose criticized what he described as corrupt judicial practices, saying that such actions portray the judiciary in a bad light and threaten its integrity. He added that those behind the controversial ruling were individuals intent on destabilizing the PDP and pushing it toward collapse.
According to him, the ruling was a reflection of desperation by political actors seeking to undermine the party’s unity and progress. He expressed confidence that the PDP, under the leadership of the new Acting National Chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, would recover from recent internal crises and rebuild its strength.
