The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed November 20, 2025, for the judgment in the terrorism case involving the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
The presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho, set the date on Friday after Kanu failed to open his defence within the six days earlier granted to him by the court. The judge noted that Kanu had been given sufficient time to present his case and therefore could not claim to have been denied the right to a fair hearing.
During the court session, Kanu filed a fresh motion challenging the legality of his trial, arguing that terrorism was no longer recognized as an offence in Nigeria. He maintained that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, under which he was being prosecuted, had been repealed, making the charges against him invalid.
Kanu also insisted that there was no existing case against him and urged the court to dismiss all charges and order his release.
The court, however, reserved its ruling and announced November 20 as the date for judgment. The case, which has drawn national and international attention, will determine whether the IPOB leader will continue to face trial or regain his freedom after years of legal battles.
