The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State has fixed December 13, 2025, for its governorship primary election to select its candidate for the 2026 gubernatorial poll.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by the state chairman, Tosin Odeyemi, in Osogbo on Friday. Odeyemi said preparations were in progress to ensure a smooth and credible primary, adding that the party was ready to make a strong showing in next year’s election.
He explained that the NNPP would not only take part in the election but would also work hard to secure victory. According to him, several aspirants have already indicated interest in contesting under the NNPP platform, while more individuals have continued to reach out to the party to join the race.
Odeyemi expressed confidence that the 2026 election would bring a new phase for the people of Osun State, as the NNPP had continued to attract attention from residents dissatisfied with the internal crisis in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the reported divisions within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He urged party members across the state to keep engaging the public about the NNPP’s programmes, which, he said, aim to address the economic hardship facing Nigerians.
Political activities in Osun are already gaining momentum ahead of the August 8, 2026, governorship election. Many parties have scheduled their primaries for December.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is also holding its primary on December 13, while the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, has been cleared by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to seek re-election.
As it stands, at least 13 aspirants have declared interest in contesting under the APC, including former deputy governors, senators, and other political figures within the state.
