An American lawmaker, Riley Moore, has warned the Nigerian government not to ignore former United States President Donald Trump’s warning concerning the continued killing of Christians in Nigeria.
Moore issued the caution on Saturday through his official X account, stating that Trump is ready to take firm action if the violent attacks on Christians continue. He called on the Nigerian authorities to cooperate with the United States to end the bloodshed and protect Christian communities across the country.
His statement followed Trump’s recent post on his Truth Social platform, where the former president described the situation in Nigeria as an “existential threat” to Christianity. Trump accused extremist groups of being responsible for the killings and announced that Nigeria had been listed as a “country of particular concern.”
Trump further stated that the United States would not remain silent while such attacks persist, adding that his administration was prepared to protect Christian populations worldwide. He also directed key members of Congress, including Moore, Tom Cole, and the House Appropriations Committee, to investigate the crisis and report back to him.
Earlier this month, Trump revealed that he had asked the Pentagon to prepare possible military plans targeting terrorist groups in Nigeria, claiming the move would help safeguard Christian communities.
In response, the Nigerian government rejected Trump’s claims and threat of intervention. President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to religious freedom and insisted that the government protects citizens of all faiths without discrimination.
The development has attracted global attention, with countries such as China and Russia expressing support for President Tinubu. Both nations urged Washington to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty and to seek diplomatic solutions rather than military action.
