The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the Governor of Anambra State and candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Professor Chukwuma Soludo, as the winner of the November 8, 2025, governorship election in the state.
The declaration was made by the Returning Officer, Professor Edoba Omoregie, at the INEC headquarters in Awka on Sunday. Soludo secured a total of 422,664 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who got 99,445 votes, while Sir Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) came third with 37,753 votes.
According to INEC, the election had 2,788,864 registered voters, out of which 598,229 were accredited. A total of 595,298 votes were cast, while 11,244 votes were rejected. The total valid votes stood at 584,054.
Soludo’s victory was overwhelming as he won in all 21 local government areas of Anambra State. The commission confirmed that 16 candidates contested the election under different political parties.
The Returning Officer noted that there were a few cases of disruptions and cancellations in some wards across Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South, and Onitsha South local government areas, affecting about 10,481 votes. However, he stated that the margin between the top contenders was wide enough and did not affect the overall result of the election.
The announcement followed a peaceful collation process monitored by party agents, observers, and security officials. The electoral commission described the exercise as largely smooth, with early deployment of materials and effective use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) across the state.
Meanwhile, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring credible elections and urged political parties to maintain peace as the final results are recorded. Soludo’s win marks his second term as governor, reaffirming APGA’s dominance in Anambra politics.
