The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the just concluded Anambra governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has rejected the victory of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
Ukachukwu, who addressed journalists in Awka on Sunday, claimed that the election was marred by violence, intimidation, and attacks on his supporters. He said many of them suffered injuries, lost their homes, and had their vehicles destroyed during the poll.
The APC candidate explained that his team was currently gathering details from agents and supporters across the state. He added that he would meet with party leaders and stakeholders before announcing his next line of action.
Ukachukwu alleged that one of his supporters, who was responsible for paying party agents, was arrested and accused of carrying money meant for vote buying. He questioned the fairness of such claims, arguing that it would be unreasonable to accuse the opposition of vote buying against an incumbent governor with access to state resources.
He further stated that several APC members were arrested or harassed during the election, including a female supporter whose house was reportedly burnt for backing his campaign. Despite the challenges, Ukachukwu said he was encouraged by the 99,000 votes he received, describing them as a strong show of support and proof that the APC was gaining ground in Anambra.
He expressed gratitude to his supporters, noting that many remained loyal even without payment after the alleged abduction of their coordinator. Ukachukwu said he would consult with party members and those who voted for him before deciding the next step to take.
The APC candidate maintained that the votes he received reflected genuine support from citizens who wanted change in the state and insisted that his party’s growing influence could no longer be ignored.
