A member of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Bode George, has said former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, acted out of confusion about the party’s nomination process for its 2025 national convention. He made this known on a television programme on Friday, where he spoke about the events that led to Lamido’s court case against the party.
George explained that the party’s National Executive Committee had approved the timetable and rules for collecting and returning nomination forms. He said all aspirants followed the steps, except Lamido, who arrived at the party office on the same day the process for returning the forms closed. According to him, Lamido could have contacted party officials earlier if he had issues with timing, and his status in the party would not have stopped them from attending to him.
He expressed concern that Lamido took the matter to court instead of resolving it internally. George, however, maintained that the PDP remains united despite ongoing disagreements and legal disputes. He described the party as strong and stable, adding that the convention would still take place as planned. He also mentioned that the court handling the matter had extended its orders on the case and would give a full ruling in December.
During the same programme, Lamido said he approached the court to defend his rights and restore his dignity. He stated that the matter was personal and not an attempt to attack the party. Lamido noted that the situation had revealed how trust within the party had broken down, and he expressed sadness over the internal conflict. He insisted that he would not attend the convention in Ibadan because there was a court order stopping the event, and attending would mean going against a ruling that had already favoured him.
Lamido explained that he felt some governors in the party contributed to the crisis, and he called for a peaceful resolution so the party could return to unity. He said he stood by the court’s decision and would not act in a way that undermines the judgment.
The dispute continues to attract public interest as the PDP moves toward its convention amid internal tension and ongoing legal battles.
