The New Nigeria Peoples Party has asked INEC and Nigerians to ignore the congresses and convention being planned by a group linked to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. The party said the planned exercises are not legal and should not be recognised.
The party’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, said court-ordered congresses of the NNPP had already been held and completed. He explained that the group associated with Kwankwaso had written to INEC to inform the commission about plans to organise new congresses and a convention starting from November 25, 2025, to January 2026.
According to the NNPP, the agreement it once had with the Kwankwaso-led movement before the 2023 presidential election has expired, and the group no longer has the right to act on behalf of the party. The party also said Kwankwaso and some members of the group were expelled for activities that went against the party’s rules.
The NNPP stated that court rulings from the Abia State High Court and the Federal Capital Territory High Court had confirmed the expulsion of Kwankwaso and his group from the party’s internal processes. It added that these judgments should be respected and enforced.
The party accused INEC of failing to act despite being fully aware of the court decisions. It said it had written several letters to the commission but had not received any clear response. The NNPP urged INEC to upload the authentic party leadership on its official website and stop giving attention to groups it believes are trying to cause confusion.
The party said it would continue to maintain peace and advised its members to ignore the planned congresses and convention. It appealed to INEC to support democracy by respecting court rulings and upholding the rule of law in the country.
