The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has experienced a new development as the faction led by Hon. Leke Abejide declared support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections and appointed new party officials in Kogi State. The appointments named Hon. Sunday Maiyaki as state chairman and Mamman Akpena as secretary, following the party’s constitutional provisions.
The faction confirmed that Abejide remains a member of the party, dismissing claims of his expulsion as political propaganda. The announcements were made during the ADC Stakeholders Forum held in Lokoja, where Abejide urged members to adopt a practical political strategy ahead of the next general elections. He also referenced his earlier support for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election as a guide for the party’s current direction.
Abejide attributed the internal crisis in the ADC to the exit of former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, claiming control had been handed over to individuals with interests outside the party. He insisted that only decisions backed by the party constitution, particularly Article 9(4), hold authority.
The faction also outlined plans to convene a national convention once pending court cases related to the ADC coalition dispute are resolved. Members loyal to Abejide are reportedly seeking stability and a clear political direction for the party. Stakeholders were encouraged to focus on forming alliances that could strengthen the ADC and ensure its relevance in the 2027 elections.
This development adds a new dimension to internal party politics and sets the stage for the ADC’s positioning ahead of the upcoming presidential contest.
