The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected claims that Honorable Najeem Salam was automatically chosen as the party’s candidate for the upcoming 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
The party addressed the reports after speculation circulated widely on social media suggesting that Salam had secured the nomination. Some supporters of another aspirant, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti, expressed dissatisfaction online, accusing party leaders of unfair practices.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed the claims as false and urged members and the public to ignore them. The party explained that a timetable for the primary election had been published, which all aspirants are expected to follow in order to contest for the flagbearer position.
ADC affirmed its commitment to conducting the primaries according to established guidelines, aiming for a transparent, free, and fair election process. The party called on all aspirants to adhere strictly to the rules and warned against spreading unverified information.
The primary election remains the official means through which the party will determine its candidate for Osun State’s 2026 governorship race, and ADC reiterated that no candidate has been pre-selected.
This clarification comes amid growing attention to Osun State politics, as parties prepare for the competitive polls scheduled for next year.
