The All Progressives Congress Screening Committee on Friday disqualified Senator Iyiola Omisore and six other aspirants from taking part in the Osun State governorship primary fixed for December 13, 2025. The committee, which concluded its work in Abuja and submitted its findings to the National Working Committee, said the affected aspirants did not meet the required nomination conditions.
The disqualified contenders include former Deputy Governor Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki and Senator Babajide Omoworare. According to the report, they failed to provide evidence of sponsorship from at least five registered and financially active party members from each Local Government Area in Osun State. The requirement is part of the APC Constitution and the guidelines for the 2025 governorship primary.
Only two aspirants — Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji — met the full nomination rules and were cleared to contest. The committee explained that it reviewed all documents, interviewed the aspirants and examined their preparedness before making its final decision.
A petition from the Osun APC Renewal Group was also reviewed, raising concerns over qualification issues. The committee found the concerns valid and insisted that all aspirants must be judged by the same rules.
The screening team also observed that the party in Osun State remains divided. It advised the national leadership to set up a strong reconciliation process to bring all groups together before the primary election. It added that appointments, party roles and campaign positions should be spread fairly across the state to reduce internal conflict and help the party face the 2026 governorship election united.
The Osun governorship election will hold on August 8, 2026, according to the timetable released earlier by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
