Taraba Governor to Join APC Officially in January 2026

Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State is set to formally join the All Progressives Congress (APC) in January 2026, following a delay from an earlier planned defection in November. The governor postponed the move due to the recent kidnapping of students in Kebbi State, choosing to avoid political activities during a period of national concern over security issues.

The Taraba State APC Chairman, Ibrahim Tukur, confirmed that Governor Kefas had already been admitted at the ward level. However, the official reception of the governor and other key stakeholders will now take place in January to allow families to focus on Christmas and New Year activities.

Tukur added that the governor had met all membership requirements and that 15 members of the Taraba State House of Assembly, along with the state executive council, have joined the ruling party. He described the development as a natural realignment, noting that more officials around the governor are expected to join in the coming weeks.

The party leadership has agreed that January would be the most suitable time for the official event. Once a specific date is finalized, the public will be informed.
