Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has rejected reports circulating online that suggested he made a statement about which region should produce Nigeria’s president in 2027. The claim, which quickly spread across social media platforms, also linked him to a possible endorsement of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, instead of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
El-Rufai stated that he never made such remarks in any speech, interview, or post on his official social media accounts. He clarified that articles written by other authors should not be attributed to him, even if he shares them on his platforms. According to him, the circulation of these false reports contributes to misleading political discussions and misinformation online.
He urged both the public and media professionals to carefully verify information before sharing or publishing it. El-Rufai warned that failing to check facts can mislead society and create confusion, especially when senior editors and influential social media users share unverified stories.
The former governor called on everyone involved in media and politics to act responsibly and ensure that only statements he has made personally are linked to his name. He also stressed that his verified social media accounts and interviews with trusted media outlets are the only sources for his opinions and public views.
