The caretaker committee announced that it had dissolved the leadership of 14 PDP state chapters and fixed dates for new congresses early next year. The decision was made public through a communiqué issued after the committee’s meeting in Abuja and later made known by the acting publicity secretary, Haruna Jungun.
According to the committee, the party leadership led by Mohammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Acting National Secretary remains the only structure recognised by the group. The committee insisted that this arrangement is still in force despite the recent Ibadan convention supported by PDP governors, where a new National Working Committee was elected.
The group recalled that although PDP governors supported a leadership transition ahead of the end of Umar Damagum’s tenure as national chairman, the Wike-aligned faction went ahead to set up a 60-day caretaker committee on December 8. The committee was given the task of organising pending congresses across the states and preparing for a national convention.
While the leadership elected at the Ibadan convention has continued to hold meetings with party stakeholders, the caretaker committee has also remained active and taken decisions affecting the party structure. As part of its resolutions, the committee listed the states affected by the dissolution as Borno, Bauchi, Oyo, Zamfara, Yobe, Ekiti, Bayelsa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Delta, Taraba, Kano and Lagos.
The caretaker committee also confirmed the continuation of caretaker arrangements in some states and assigned duties to some of its members to ensure smooth operations. New roles were given to Professor Adenike Ogunse as Women Leader, Engineer Deji Dohati as Deputy National Secretary, Senator Olaka Ogunwu to handle treasury and publicity duties, and Ambassador Ibrahim Bala-Aboki as Youth Leader.
The committee further announced that state congresses will begin on January 9, 2026, after which a national convention will be held. The acting chairman, Mohammed Abdulrahman, stated that his group believes it is operating in line with the party’s constitution and the laws of the country, and maintained that the PDP under his leadership remains united and active.
