The Peoples Democratic Party has said it is ready to give Abia State Governor Alex Otti its governorship ticket for the 2027 election if he decides to join the party. The position was made public by the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, during an event in Umuahia.
Wabara spoke while attending the unveiling of the Abia State Government’s 25-year development plan, which brought together political leaders, stakeholders, and development partners. He said the PDP would welcome Otti without delay and support him for a second term if he defects to the party.
According to him, the Abia governor has gained wide acceptance because of his record in office, adding that performance now matters more than party labels. He explained that Otti’s work has attracted attention from different political parties and has placed him in a strong position ahead of the next election.
Wabara also said the PDP is rebuilding itself as it prepares for 2027. He noted that the party’s leadership is working on internal reforms aimed at restoring confidence and making the party attractive to credible politicians across the country.
He added that the South-East remains an important base for the PDP and that Otti’s possible move to the party would increase its strength in the region. He said the PDP is focused on bringing in leaders who have shown the ability to deliver results in government.
The former Senate President praised the Abia government’s long-term development plan, describing it as a clear guide that could change the state if properly carried out. He also commended improvements in roads, healthcare, education, industry, security, and transport, including the introduction of electric buses in the state.
Wabara said good governance should rise above party loyalty and noted that many Abians are returning home to see the changes taking place. He recalled earlier praise he gave Otti over the reconstruction of Port Harcourt Road in Aba, saying events have since proven that the project was a positive step.
He further advised the governor to think seriously about joining the PDP, pointing to internal challenges within the Labour Party. According to him, the PDP has a wider national structure that would better support Otti against political pressure ahead of the 2027 elections.
Wabara concluded that Otti’s leadership has put Abia State back on a steady development path and that aligning with the PDP could strengthen his chances of returning to office in the next governorship race.
