The Peoples Democratic Party in the Federal Capital Territory has said it is fully prepared for the area council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. The party stated that all its candidates have been properly screened, approved by its national leadership, and accepted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The party made this known amid reports of internal disagreements within the PDP, including disputes linked to different interests within the party in the FCT. Despite these issues, the PDP said its candidates remain valid and cleared to contest the elections.
In a statement released on Sunday by the FCT Publicity Secretary, Josephine Itoyah-Splendor, the party explained that its candidates were endorsed by the National Working Committee led by Umar Damagum and later confirmed by INEC. According to the party, all necessary documents were submitted and accepted without any issues.
The PDP said it is united and focused on winning the elections, insisting that claims questioning the eligibility of its candidates are false. It added that such reports are being spread by political opponents who are uncomfortable with the party’s level of preparation.
The party also said that past internal challenges at the national level have no effect on the status of its candidates in the FCT. It maintained that there are no divisions within the FCT chapter and that all members are working together ahead of the polls.
The PDP called on residents of the Federal Capital Territory to participate actively in the elections and support the party. It urged voters to reject parties it described as underperforming and to vote for the PDP, which it said is ready to deliver good governance.
The party concluded by expressing confidence that it will record success across the area councils, saying it is prepared, united, and set for the February 2026 elections.
