FG, National Assembly Pledge Peace and SecurityThe Federal Government and the National Assembly have reaffirmed their resolve to make Nigeria one of the most peaceful and secure countries in Africa. This assurance was given by Senate President Godswill Akpabio through the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Peter Nwebonyi, at the Inter-Denominational Church Service held in Abuja to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
Akpabio stated that both arms of government are working together to create a safe environment that will support growth and prosperity for both present and future generations. He explained that the remembrance of fallen military personnel serves as a reminder of the need to build a united and secure nation.
He also spoke on Nigeria’s diversity, noting that the country is home to people of different languages, cultures, and religions. According to him, peaceful coexistence depends on respecting the constitutional rights of citizens, including freedom of religion, worship, and conscience. He added that these rights form the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic system and must always be protected.
The Senate President paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces who lost their lives while serving the country, saying their sacrifices continue to support Nigeria’s unity, peace, and development. He added that the choices made by leaders today will determine the future safety and stability of the nation.
Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, said President Bola Tinubu remains committed to ensuring that the Armed Forces and other security agencies are properly equipped, motivated, and supported to carry out their duties effectively. He noted that the president places great value on service and sacrifice and continues to support the welfare of troops and their families.
The defence minister acknowledged that the country is facing difficult times but expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its challenges through strong leadership and collective effort.
