The Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees convened its 85th meeting to review party affairs and chart a way forward amid ongoing internal challenges. The meeting brought together senior party elders, leaders, and custodians of the party’s values to discuss unity, institutional stability, and the conduct of future congresses.
The chairman of the Board of Trustees welcomed members and acknowledged their commitment to the party despite personal and professional demands. He noted that the party is navigating a period of transition that requires calm reflection, wisdom, and respect for the party’s constitution. The gathering was described as an opportunity for trustees to reinforce their role as stabilizing forces and moral guides for the party.
Recent months have seen disputes, leadership disagreements, and legal matters test the cohesion of the PDP. However, the Board stressed that the party’s endurance is rooted in its institutions rather than individual personalities. Trustees reiterated the importance of balancing strong opinions with collective interest and adherence to due process in all party matters.
The delay in the conduct of congresses was discussed, with the Board noting that it was a deliberate decision guided by respect for ongoing judicial processes. The Federal High Court judgment in Ibadan was mentioned as providing clarity on the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led National Caretaker Committee, reinforcing the need for trustees to uphold respect for legal rulings and democratic institutions.
Members were called upon to focus on reconciliation, rebuilding trust, and preparing for orderly congresses and a credible National Convention. The Board was reminded that internal unity is critical to the party’s survival and ability to remain a credible alternative in national politics. Trustees were encouraged to speak openly, listen carefully, and maintain commitment to the party’s legacy and long-term objectives.
The meeting concluded with a renewed call for collective responsibility, calm deliberation, and the pursuit of the PDP’s unity and resurgence.
God and party values were invoked as guiding principles for the trustees in carrying out their mandate.
Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, presided over the meeting and led the discussions on the path forward for the party.
