The All Progressives Congress in Abia State on Sunday declared its readiness to support President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid in the 2027 general elections.
The party made this known during a stakeholders’ pre-congress meeting held at the country home of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, in Bende Local Government Area.
Party leaders and members from across the state gathered at the meeting to discuss preparations for the coming elections and strategies to strengthen the APC in Abia.
During the event, the state chapter adopted Tinubu as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 poll and assured that it would work to secure victory for him.
Kalu called on party stakeholders to stay united and remain committed to building a stronger structure at all levels. He said the party in Abia has already recorded over 160,000 registered members through its electronic registration exercise.
According to him, the figure could have been much higher if there were more National Identity Number registration machines available to support the process.
He explained that efforts are ongoing to expand membership before the next election cycle and expressed confidence that the party’s strength in the state would grow steadily.
He also disclosed that his office had provided more than 400 tablets and other materials to assist with the registration drive, adding that the party belongs to all members and not to any single individual.
The Deputy Speaker warned against internal divisions, stating that unity is necessary for the party to succeed in both state and national elections.
He said members must avoid forming factions and instead focus on working together to achieve electoral success.
Also speaking at the meeting, the APC National Welfare Secretary, Donatus Nwankpa, urged members to promote peace and cooperation within the party.
He said the APC has the responsibility to position itself strongly in Abia State and prepare to compete effectively in the 2027 elections.
The meeting ended with a renewed pledge by party stakeholders to strengthen grassroots mobilization and ensure that the APC remains active and organized ahead of the presidential and other elections scheduled for 2027.
