INEC shifts campaign deadline for Osun poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday announced a change in the campaign timetable for the Osun State governorship election following an earlier shift in the election date.

The commission explained that the poll, which was initially fixed for August 8, 2026, had been moved forward by one week to August 15, 2026. As a result of this change, the deadline for political campaigns in the state has also been adjusted.

According to the commission, political parties are now required to end their campaigns by midnight on August 13, 2026, in line with the provision of the Electoral Act, which requires all campaigns to stop at least 24 hours before the election.

The update was communicated in a statement signed by Mohammed Haruna, who also heads the Information and Voter Education Committee of the commission.
INEC called on political parties, candidates, and other stakeholders involved in the election to strictly follow the revised schedule to ensure proper organisation of the process.

The commission also restated its readiness to conduct credible elections, assuring the public that necessary steps are being taken to deliver a smooth and transparent governorship poll in Osun State.
