Iheanyi Frank Chinasa, a political aide to Abia State Governor Alex Otti, has left the Labour Party and moved to the All Progressives Congress as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections continue to gather pace. Chinasa, who serves as the National Assembly Liaison Officer, made the switch on Sunday and aligned himself with leaders of the APC.
The move took place during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Owerri, Imo State, where he appeared alongside the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. The meeting was convened by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma and brought together party figures from different parts of the region.
Before leaving the Labour Party, Chinasa was known as a close associate of Governor Otti and played an active role in party affairs within Bende Local Government Area and the Abia North Senatorial District. His exit marks a shift in allegiance from a party where he had built strong ties at the grassroots level.
Chinasa had previously contested for the Bende Federal Constituency seat during the 2023 general elections but was defeated by Kalu. Despite that loss, he remained politically active and later took up an appointment within the state government, maintaining his presence in public service.
His recent appearance at the APC gathering confirmed his new political direction. Party leaders welcomed his entry, noting his background in Bende politics and his experience within both local and national political structures.
The development adds to ongoing political movements within the state and signals further changes as politicians begin to reposition themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
