Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun West Senatorial District on Sunday in Ilaro, Ogun State, declared support for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola ahead of the 2027 governorship election, as they moved to end internal divisions and work together for the party’s success.
The decision followed a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders, elected officials, and key political figures from across the district.
The gathering brought together the Deputy Governor of the state, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the Minister of State for Health, Kunle Salako, members of the House of Representatives, former public office holders, and other party stakeholders. The meeting was aimed at building consensus and strengthening unity within the party in preparation for the next election cycle.
During the meeting, party leaders agreed to support Adeola, also known as Yayi, as their preferred candidate for the governorship race. They also agreed to put aside past disagreements and focus on collective efforts to secure victory for the party. The leaders noted that Ogun West had long sought the opportunity to produce a governor and that unity was necessary to achieve that goal.
The Deputy Governor acknowledged the roles played by President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dapo Abiodun in bringing party members together. She urged the candidate to carry everyone along, including women, while building his political structure ahead of the election.
Other speakers at the meeting stressed that agreement alone would not guarantee success, noting that party members must begin early mobilisation across communities. They called for stronger grassroots engagement and voter registration efforts to ensure a good outing in 2027.
Former aspirants and party leaders also confirmed that earlier disputes within the party had been resolved, describing the meeting as a fresh start for Ogun West. They urged members to set aside personal interests and work together for a common goal.
In his response, Adeola described the development as a new phase for the district, stating that leaders and members had agreed to move forward as one group. He acknowledged the contributions of party leaders, including former governors, and said the support given to him placed a responsibility on him to work for the interest of all.
He assured members that no group would be ignored and called for full commitment toward winning not only the governorship seat but also other positions in the 2027 elections. The meeting ended with a call for unity, discipline, and continued mobilisation across the district.
