The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance on April 19, 2026, released in Nigeria the timetable for its primary elections ahead of the 2027 general polls, outlining when activities will take place, how candidates will emerge, and what aspirants will pay for forms.
The party made this known through its spokesperson, stating that the schedule follows the election timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission and aligns with its internal rules and the Electoral Act. According to the plan, interested aspirants will begin the process by obtaining and submitting expression of interest forms between April 20 and May 8.
The screening of aspirants is scheduled to take place shortly after, with those seeking seats in the National Assembly to be screened on May 11, while aspirants for state legislative positions will be screened on May 12. Governorship hopefuls are expected to undergo their screening on May 13.
The party explained that only those who pass the screening stage will be allowed to move forward to the next phase, which involves purchasing nomination forms. This stage will run from May 14 to May 21, after which all qualified aspirants will take part in the primary elections.
APGA also disclosed the cost of its forms, stating that those interested in the presidential race will pay a total of N75 million, combining both expression of interest and nomination fees. Other positions have different costs, with governorship, National Assembly, and state assembly forms priced at lower rates.
The timetable shows that all primary elections will be conducted on May 23 using the option A4 system, while disputes arising from the primaries will be handled on May 28 through an internal appeal process.
The party had earlier indicated at a regional meeting in Awka that aspirants would first obtain expression of interest forms separately before being considered eligible for nomination forms, a move aimed at organising the selection process.
This development sets the stage for APGA’s preparations for the 2027 elections, as the party begins the process of choosing candidates across different elective positions in line with the national electoral schedule.
