The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Monday, April 20, 2026, in Ibadan, Oyo State, restated its full backing for Governor Seyi Makinde and called on members and citizens to remain united as political activities begin to build toward the 2027 elections. The message was delivered during a press briefing by the party’s zonal secretary, Sanya Atofarati, at the PDP zonal headquarters.
The party stated that it stands firmly with Makinde’s leadership, describing his administration as one focused on governance and public welfare. It also assured that it remains loyal to the national leadership of the PDP and supports efforts aimed at strengthening democracy and stability across the country.
The South-West PDP warned against actions or statements that could create unnecessary political tension. It noted that unity among party members and the wider public is needed, especially as the country faces economic and social challenges.
The party also addressed rumours suggesting plans to remove the governor through impeachment, dismissing them as false and misleading. It said such claims were being spread to create confusion and political unrest.
In the same briefing, the party reacted to comments made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, stating that his remarks were not helpful to public discussions and could worsen tensions. It added that involving traditional institutions in political disputes was not appropriate and should be avoided.
Fayose had earlier claimed on social media that there were political moves targeting the removal of the Olubadan of Ibadan, Ladoja, linking it to alleged actions by Governor Makinde. Both the state government and palace sources have denied the claim.
The South-West PDP urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid being influenced by political actors it described as spreading falsehoods for personal advantage.
