President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid moved into a new stage on Tuesday after James Faleke obtained the All Progressives Congress Expression of Interest and Nomination forms on the president’s behalf in Abuja. The forms, valued at N100 million, were presented at the APC National Secretariat as the ruling party began moves toward its presidential primary.
Faleke, who represents Ikeja Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and leads the Tinubu Support Groups, collected the forms during a ceremony handled by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu. The move formally signals Tinubu’s entry into the contest for a second term as preparations for the 2027 election gather pace.
The development comes as political parties begin aligning with the timetable released for the general election. Under the schedule, party primaries and settlement of disputes are expected to run from April 23 to May 30, 2026, giving parties a window to conclude their internal processes ahead of the polls.
Tinubu’s form purchase is seen as an early show of readiness by the ruling party as attention turns to who will fly party flags across the country. With the APC opening its nomination process, the president’s supporters have now moved from consultations to concrete steps within the party structure.
The presidential and National Assembly elections have been scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027. Campaigns for the presidential election are expected to begin in August, while governorship campaigns will start in September.
The latest move also places Tinubu among the first major contenders to make a formal step toward the 2027 race, even as conversations around possible challengers continue across opposition parties.
Within the APC, the collection of the forms has stirred fresh talks about the president’s second-term strategy, especially as the party is also preparing for primaries at different levels. Party officials say the revised election timetable is aimed at keeping the process orderly and avoiding internal disputes.
