Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele has emerged as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Ekiti Central Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections. The lawmaker secured the ticket without facing any opposition during the party’s screening and nomination process.
The confirmation came through a list released by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Arugungu, which contained the names of aspirants cleared to contest for senatorial seats in Ekiti State under the party’s platform.
Apart from Bamidele, other politicians cleared by the APC for the senatorial contest include Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, former Senate Minority Leader Biodun Olujimi and Bamidele Faparusi for the Ekiti South Senatorial District.
For the Ekiti North Senatorial District, the party cleared Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Senator Ayo Arise, Oladipupo Bamisaye and Chief Oluwadare Owolabi to participate in the race.
With the latest development, Bamidele is preparing to contest for the Ekiti Central Senate seat for the third straight election cycle under the APC. He first won the party’s ticket in 2019 after defeating the then-serving senator representing the district during the primary election.
The Senate Leader also emerged as the APC’s unopposed senatorial candidate in 2023. Supporters within the party linked his continued acceptance to his activities in the National Assembly and his relationship with members of his constituency.
The APC has continued its screening process across states as the party prepares for primary elections ahead of the 2027 polls. Political activities have also increased in several states as aspirants seek tickets for different elective offices.
