The African Democratic Congress, ADC, under the leadership of factional National Chairman Nafiu Bala Gombe, has completed the screening of aspirants preparing to contest in the party’s primary elections across Nigeria ahead of the next electoral cycle.
The screening exercise, which took place across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, ended with 1,657 aspirants receiving approval to proceed to the primaries, while 212 others were ruled ineligible after failing to meet the party’s requirements.
According to the party, a total of 1,869 aspirants participated in the process. Screening committees were set up nationwide to carry out the exercise in line with internal rules and electoral procedures.
ADC explained that the review covered aspirants contesting for different elective positions and that only those who satisfied the conditions moved to the next stage.
Among those affected by the screening outcome were aspirants seeking seats in state and federal legislatures.
The party disclosed that 155 aspirants contesting for State House of Assembly positions did not qualify. Another 50 House of Representatives aspirants and seven Senate hopefuls also failed to secure clearance.
The party linked the disqualifications to issues discovered during verification. These included inconsistencies in personal records such as dates of birth and graduation details, absence of valid membership documents, and failure to comply with electoral guidelines set by the party.
ADC said the exercise was carried out in an orderly manner and maintained that the process followed the provisions of its constitution and established procedures.
With the screening completed, attention is expected to shift to the party’s primary elections, where cleared aspirants will compete for tickets to represent ADC in future elections across the country.
