Tinubu Appoints New Head of Service
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Enitan as the next Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with the new appointment set to take effect on August 27, 2026.
Enitan will replace Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is leaving the Federal Civil Service after reaching the mandatory retirement age of 60.
The appointment was announced by the Presidency on Wednesday as part of changes in the top leadership of the federal civil service.
Enitan, who is from Osun State, currently serves as the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education. He is also the longest-serving Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, having spent about seven years and seven months in that position.
During his time as Permanent Secretary, Enitan has worked in several government offices, including the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
The Presidency said his experience across different government institutions would be useful in his new role as the head of the federal civil service.
Tinubu also thanked the outgoing Head of Service, Walson-Jack, for her years of service and for the reforms introduced during her time in office.
The President said her contributions had helped bring new ideas and changes to the civil service and wished her well as she retires from public service.
Tinubu also directed Enitan to continue with ongoing reforms and improve the level of professionalism and efficiency within the civil service.
He further tasked the incoming Head of Service with building a public service that is focused on merit, accountability, innovation and better service delivery to Nigerians.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He completed his secondary education at Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and later attended the College of Arts and Science in Ile-Ife.
He studied Finance and Banking at the University of Lagos and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1988.
In 2015, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.
Enitan will officially take over from Walson-Jack on August 27, following her retirement from the federal civil service.
