African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke over his meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, linking the visit to the political crisis surrounding the recent Osun governorship election.
Sowore made his position known on Thursday, August 20, 2026, in a post on his official X account while reacting to images of Adeleke and Tinubu during their meeting.
The AAC chieftain alleged that the meeting between the two politicians was part of a political understanding between Adeleke and Tinubu. He also suggested that the governor’s visit could have wider political implications as politicians begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sowore also raised concerns about the violence recorded during and around the Osun governorship election. He claimed that almost 50 people in the state had lost their lives in incidents connected to the election.
According to him, another person was killed on Wednesday near the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo. He linked the reported death to the wider violence that he said had followed the election.
The activist further criticised Adeleke for meeting Tinubu shortly after his re-election, questioning the political relationship between the Osun governor and the President.
Adeleke had earlier visited the Presidential Villa, where he held a closed-door meeting with Tinubu. The meeting came shortly after the President congratulated the governor on his victory in the Osun governorship election.
The governor’s visit has since attracted political reactions, with Sowore among those questioning the timing and possible political reasons behind the meeting.
Sowore’s claims about the number of deaths and the circumstances surrounding the reported killings could not be independently verified from the information available in the report.
The development comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, with politicians and political groups increasingly engaging in meetings and consultations across the country.
