Oluwo Backs APC Aspirant Ogunbiyi for Osun Governorship

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has declared support for the governorship ambition of Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant from Ileogbo in Osun State.

The endorsement was made on Tuesday during Ogunbiyi’s visit to the monarch at his palace in Iwo, where Oba Akanbi urged all communities within Iwoland, which includes Ayedire, Olaoluwa, and Iwo Local Government Areas, to unite behind the aspirant.

The traditional ruler expressed confidence that it was time for Iwoland to produce the next governor of Osun State and pledged to reach out to other areas of the state to garner wider support for the project.

He also encouraged political participation among residents, saying the people of Iwoland must support their own to attain leadership positions capable of bringing growth and opportunities to their communities.During the visit, Ogunbiyi formally declared his intention to contest the Osun governorship election on the APC platform.

He appealed to residents and traditional leaders in Iwo Federal Constituency to rally behind his aspiration, noting that the constituency has the population strength to influence the outcome of the election.Ogunbiyi assured that his administration, if elected, would promote even development across the state and improve the welfare of citizens.

He stated that the slow development in some areas resulted from the absence of local representation in key government positions.Meanwhile, other aspirants in the party have also intensified efforts to secure support ahead of the APC primary scheduled for December 13, 2026.

Among them is former Osun Commissioner for Finance, Bola Oyebamiji, who recently received backing from APC leaders in Ila, Boripe, and Ayedaade Local Government Areas.

Oyebamiji, currently serving as the Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, assured supporters during a consultation meeting in Orangun that he would protect the interests of Osun people if entrusted with leadership.

The APC has fixed its governorship primary for December 2026, ahead of the main election slated for August 8, 2026.

With 12 aspirants already in the race, consultations and alliances continue across local government areas as the party prepares to choose its flag bearer.
