The Christ Apostolic Church, CAC Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara State, held a special church service inside its blood-stained auditorium on Sunday to pray for members who were taken during the recent bandit attack and to honour those who lost their lives. During the service, the church confirmed that 38 worshippers were abducted, correcting earlier reports that gave higher figures.

The church secretary explained that the initial list had 35 missing members, but further checks showed that three non-members were also kidnapped, bringing the total number to 38. He also confirmed that three people were killed during the attack and another victim is still receiving medical care in the hospital.

The kidnappers were reported to have demanded ransom for each victim, first asking for very high amounts before reducing the demand during negotiations. Contact with the kidnappers later stopped, raising more fear and worry among families.

Despite fear in the town, the church encouraged members to attend the Sunday service to build their faith and courage. Only a few members attended due to the trauma caused by the attack. Government security operatives were seen patrolling the town and stationed around the church to maintain safety.
The presiding pastor told the congregation to remain strong in faith and assured them of hope for the safe return of those abducted. Families of the victims appealed to the government and security agencies to increase rescue efforts to bring their loved ones home safely.
Security forces, including soldiers, police units and local vigilante groups, were deployed across Eruku following orders from the President to hunt down the attackers and rescue the victims. The attack has added to growing fears of rising kidnappings in Kwara and neighbouring states, as bandit activities continue to spread across the region.
