The Federal Capital Territory Administration has directed all public senior secondary schools in Abuja to close urgently due to growing security concerns. The order was issued on Tuesday by the Director of School Services of the FCT Secondary Education Board, Aishatu Alhassan, through an internal memo sent to principals and school heads.

According to the directive, all academic activities are to stop immediately. School authorities were told to dismiss students in a calm, orderly, and safe manner to avoid any form of panic. Schools were also instructed to inform parents, guardians, teachers, and students about the sudden closure and to adjust any pending academic schedules.

The FCTA stated that the schools should be prepared to resume on the next official school day unless new instructions are given. School administrators were told to treat the directive as urgent and important, given the current security climate across parts of the country.

This decision comes amid recent cases of abductions and violent attacks in different states. Reports show that 25 female students were recently taken from a government girls’ school in Kebbi State. In Niger State, over 300 students and teachers were abducted from a school in Agwara. In Kwara State, dozens of church worshippers were kidnapped and later released, while more residents of a local community were also taken in separate incidents.
The FCTA said the temporary school closure is a safety step to protect students and staff members until the security situation becomes more stable.
