Tinubu Reaffirms Security Plans, Pays Tribute to Late Kogi Governor

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday restated his plans to restore peace, strengthen security and improve economic opportunities in the country. His message was delivered in Lokoja during the memorial event held in honour of former Kogi State Governor, Prince Abubakar Audu. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, represented him at the gathering.

Idris, speaking through a statement issued by his media aide, said the Federal Government is fully focused on confronting threats affecting national stability. He noted that the country has faced fresh security challenges in recent times, and the government is taking firm steps to address them. He explained that the recently announced State of Emergency on national security was introduced to create room for stronger manpower, modern intelligence tools and important reforms. According to him, the move also supports the push for the creation of State Police, which the administration believes will bring security closer to local communities and create jobs at the grassroots.

He told attendees that the government has already started expanding the strength of the armed forces and other security agencies, with plans to improve their equipment and intelligence capacity. He said the aim is to go after those attacking communities and restore peace across the country.

Idris added that lasting peace will only come when Nigeria’s security structure is updated to match present-day threats. He said this is why the government is firmly pursuing constitutional steps to establish State Police, describing it as an important approach that will work hand in hand with national forces.

He also mentioned that the Federal Government is holding diplomatic talks with other countries to counter wrong stories being spread about Nigeria’s religious harmony.

Speaking about the late Prince Abubakar Audu, President Tinubu described him as a strong figure in Nigeria’s political history who helped build the foundation of Kogi State’s development. Tinubu recalled their political relationship and said Audu left behind a record of leadership that shaped Kogi’s early years and continues to inspire many people. He said the late governor’s vision is one the present administration aims to honour through practical work and reforms.

Tinubu also spoke about steps being taken to grow the economy. He mentioned a new plan to modernise the livestock sector through large ranches, improved animal care and better integration of the livestock value chain into the national economy. He said the goal is to turn the sector
