The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated reconciliation committees ahead of the 2027 general elections, appointing Professor Pat Utomi as chairman and Buba Galadima as co-chairman. The party announced the appointments during the inauguration ceremony held on Thursday as part of efforts to strengthen unity after its internal nomination process.

Speaking at the event, NDC National Chairman Moses Cleopas said the committee had been given the task of resolving disagreements among party members in line with the party’s constitution. He urged the members to carry out their assignment with fairness, integrity and impartiality while putting the interest of the party first.

Cleopas said the committee should listen to members across the country, meet with all concerned groups and work towards restoring trust within the party. He noted that its responsibility goes beyond settling disputes, adding that it is expected to rebuild confidence among members and promote unity ahead of the next general elections.

The NDC chairman also acknowledged the efforts of all aspirants who participated in the party’s nomination process. He said those who did not secure tickets remain valuable members whose experience and contributions will still be needed during the campaign and beyond.
According to him, the emergence of one candidate for each elective position should not be seen as a reflection of the leadership ability or political value of other aspirants. He maintained that every committed member has a role to play in the party’s activities as it prepares for the 2027 polls.
Cleopas further appealed to party leaders, stakeholders, aspirants and supporters across the federation to cooperate with the reconciliation committee. He said addressing grievances and ensuring that members feel included would help strengthen the party before the elections.
