FG Sets Up Panel to Train One Million Nigerians in Digital Skills

The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee to manage the training and certification of one million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging technology skills across the country. The committee was inaugurated in Abuja by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, who was represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Ibrahim Kana.
The committee is expected to supervise the rollout of the programme and also plan and organise a National Digital Literacy Conference as part of efforts to build human capacity and support Nigeria’s digital growth drive. The government said the initiative is in line with its goal of achieving 95 per cent digital literacy by the year 2030 and preparing the workforce for modern digital demands.
It was explained that the programme fits into existing national policies on digital development, including the Digital Transformation Agenda, the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu. The initiative also follows decisions reached at the 13th National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy meeting held in December 2025, where the Future Proof Economy model was adopted as the framework for digital literacy delivery.
The Federal Government clarified that while the programme aligns with government policies and receives coordination support from public institutions, it is fully funded and implemented by Clergywealth Cooperative Society Limited. The committee will guide the nationwide rollout, with attention given to youths, women, underserved communities and persons living with disabilities.
Its responsibilities include coordinating government agencies, state governments, private sector partners, academic institutions and civil society groups. The committee will also track progress, ensure quality control, report outcomes and document lessons from the programme to support long-term sustainability.
Members of the committee were drawn from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, relevant federal ministries, agencies such as NITDA and TETFund, state representatives, ICT professionals and civil society organisations.
